The Foundation for the Development of Basic Sciences (FUNDACIBA) is a non-profit organization created by the University of the Republic (UDELAR), following a proposal from the Basic Sciences Development Program (PEDECIBA).
Since 2005, FUNDACIBA has worked alongside researchers and faculty in the formulation, management, and execution of projects, initiatives, and events linked to the national academic sphere. Its mission focuses on supporting and enabling scientific research activities and the training of researchers across all disciplines within the exact and natural sciences.
Additionally, the foundation collaborates with PEDECIBA’s Research Valorization and Technology Transfer Unit (UVITT). Through the integration of both institutions, efforts are coordinated to broaden the impact of academic activities, aiming to strengthen actions and cooperative relationships in areas of shared interest that ultimately benefit society.
The governance and administration of FUNDACIBA are overseen by the Board of Directors, its highest authority, composed of members proposed by PEDECIBA’s Executive Committee and ratified by UDELAR’s Central Governing Council (CDC).
Mission
Its mission is structured around supporting and enabling scientific research and the training of highly qualified human resources in the basic sciences through efficient management, committed advisory work, and the facilitation of processes that strengthen academic activities contributing to the advancement of knowledge and its application to the country’s development.
Vision
Its vision is to become a leading foundation in Uruguay for the promotion and strengthening of basic sciences, recognized for its transparent management and strategic role in enhancing scientific capacities, technological transfer, and the consolidation of meaningful connections between science and society. It aspires to generate social and productive impact aligned with the goals of the Basic Sciences Development Program and the University of the Republic.
