Research interests
Development of semiconductor nanoparticle synthesis using environmentally friendly methods, along with characterization through various techniques. The nanoparticles are studied for the following applications:
-Enhancing the efficiency of radiotherapy
-Fabricating radiation detectors
-Water purification through photocatalysis
Working area
We work with semiconductor nanoparticles, which, due to their band gap and the high atomic numbers of their elements, exhibit interesting phenomena when interacting with radiation ranging from gamma rays to visible light, making them suitable for various applications. Bi2S3 is studied as a radiosensitizer. Nanoparticles of this material are synthesized, in-vitro and in-vivo studies are conducted, and their potential to enhance the efficiency of radiotherapy procedures is evaluated. BiSI, BiI3, and Bi19S27I3 are investigated for gamma or X-ray radiation detection. Nanoparticles are synthesized, and pellets or films are fabricated to create radiation detectors. The properties of these detectors are determined and correlated with the characteristics of the nanoparticles and their manufacturing conditions. In particular, the synthesis of BiSI and Bi19S27I3 is challenging, so their mechanism is under study. Work is also being done on SnS2 and Bi19S27I3 nanoparticles as photocatalysts for water treatment, focusing on the degradation of dyes, agrochemicals, and metals.
