Valorization of forest biomass produced in Uruguay: utilization of paper industry waste

Working area

Our research line has the general objective of utilizing forest biomass, specifically lignin extracted from black liquor and Eucalyptus bark, through environmentally friendly methodologies. To this end, we propose the use of the methodology: Catalytic Hydrogenolysis, employing different metal catalysts and various hydrogen donors (2-propanol, 2-butanol, formic acid, ammonium formate), on lignin models containing aryl-ether linkages. The knowledge generated from these models will then be applied to Kraft lignins extracted from black liquor (BL).
