Transdiagnostic Research in Psychopathology (ITraPsi)
Historically, mental disorders have been conceptualized as categorical entities defined in dichotomous terms. However, this paradigm is shifting, and various authors are beginning to conceptualize mental disorders from a transdiagnostic perspective. From this view, improving our understanding of mental disorders requires examining the common underlying mechanisms that cut across diagnostic categories. Identifying these shared mechanisms is a crucial step toward clarifying etiology, predicting onset, preventing or reducing symptomatology, and informing the development or refinement of existing clinical interventions. Nevertheless, efforts to delineate the psychobiological profiles underlying mental disorders remain scarce. Accordingly, our team aims to investigate the psychobiological factors that underlie psychopathology—particularly those shared across multiple categories—using methods from diverse disciplines (e.g., psychology, neuroscience, data science, immunology).
