David González has a PhD from the University of Florida and is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Chemistry at Universidad de la República in Uruguay. He has held various positions at the University, including the presidency of the Sectoral Commission for Continuing Education.
Since returning to Uruguay in 1999, he has worked in organic synthesis and biocatalysis with a special emphasis on the synthesis of optically active molecules and greener methodologies for the manufacture of chemical compounds. Since 2016, he has become progressively involved in academic management in various organizations within the Uruguayan research ecosystem.
He is an active member of PEDECIBA, where he served as Coordinator of the Chemistry Area, Delegate of the researchers on the Board of Directors, and since 2019, he has been the Academic Director of the Program, which is his main activity today. He has also participated in several cooperation and management initiatives, including his work as a member of the Advisory Board of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
From 2017 to 2019, he was Director of the Directorate for the Development of Science and Knowledge (D2C2), where he worked to improve the Uruguayan scientific ecosystem and support the careers of young researchers, creating programs such as the Vaz Ferreira Fund, TocoSalir, and Researcher Recognition Day.
As director of PEDECIBA (2019-2023 and re-elected for 2023-2027), he has promoted the renewal of management, a postdoctoral fellowship program, and programs like INICIE, DESPEGUE CIENTÍFICO, EQUIS, and PREXI.
