Research interests
Development of analytical strategies for the evaluation of different ecosystems and their elements, with emphasis on aquatic ecosystems. The aim is also to ensure that the methods developed are as aligned as possible with the principles of Green Analytical Chemistry, as alternatives to classical methods. Transdisciplinary work is also promoted, in order to find sustainable solutions and strategies at an environmental and social level.
Working area
My work is based on the development of analytical strategies for the study of different ecosystems that function as tools for the evaluation of their quality and provide valuable information to direct human and economic resources towards mitigation and/or adaptation. I am a member of the following research groups: Trace Element Analysis and Development of Simple Strategies for Sample Preparation Group (GATPREM); Bioanalytical and Speciation Group (BIOESP), Toxicological Analytical Chemistry and Ecosalud, all registered with CSIC. Each group works on different components of ecosystems, which allow their evaluation: the development of analytical methods that allow the determination of elements that can be found at trace levels and, if possible, within the guidelines of Green Analytical Chemistry. These two lines are part of the work of GATPREM. On the other hand, the chemical species under which an element is presented is relevant due to the effect it can cause in Ecosystems. It is also interesting to be able to evaluate the bioaccessibility of certain compounds, which may have a positive or negative effect on the organism. Both lines are part of BioEsp. The Ecosalud group is characterized by its interdisciplinary work and by working with the population, responding to its demands and seeking solutions in a transdisciplinary way. Finally, the development of methods that allow the evaluation of element levels in biological samples is relevant. The analysis of certain compounds and their relationship with the health of animals and humans allows monitoring health, and therefore, preventing diseases and maintaining biodiversity, a line framed within the Analytical Toxicology Group.
I have published work within the framework of the four research groups, focused on the study of the Health of Ecosystems and its components: water, food, human hair, among others. I have been responsible for a María Viñas Modality III and I am currently responsible for a Vaz Ferreira project, in addition to having participated in other research projects.
