My research focuses on wood deterioration processes, exploring the effects of biotic agents—such as fungi and insects—as well as abiotic factors, including water, fire, and radiation. Simultaneously, I investigate various methods and products for wood protection, utilizing a diverse range of techniques from chemical applications to wood modification. The last one involves developing innovative materials that arise from the functionalization of chemically modified wood.
Working area
Within my research, I focus on four main areas: 1- Chemical modification of wood, that includes traditional methods as well as the exploration of more sustainable alternatives; 2- Use of zinc borate as a wood protector; 3- Risk maps of deterioration by biotic agents in Uruguay; 4 -Survey of termite species in Uruguay.
