Research interests
My academic work focuses on the study of preterm birth (PTB), a global health issue with high rates of perinatal morbidity and mortality, especially in Uruguay. I am investigating the molecular mechanisms that trigger PTB, with a focus on genetic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic factors. Through the analysis of gene expression, DNA methylation, and rare genetic variants, we aim to identify biomarkers associated with severe preterm birth. Our goal is to correlate genetic variants with their functional effects on gene regulation. Additionally, we are investigating epigenetic modifications, such as differential methylation in gene promoters, to better understand the differences in gene expression related to PTB.
