Gervasio Piñeiro Guerra’s research focuses on the ecology of agricultural systems, with a special emphasis on the relationship between soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. Through studying the natural grasslands of the Río de la Plata, he explores the importance of these ecosystems in both biodiversity conservation and sustainable productivity. Additionally, he collaborates with rural producers to measure and preserve soil properties through innovative initiatives like the creation of soil archives, allowing for historical assessments of soil health. His research also includes the dissemination of ecological science in urban and rural settings, highlighting the interdependence between soil health and human well-being under the concept of “One Health.”
Working area
My area of work focuses on the ecology of agricultural systems and the sustainability of management practices in productive environments. I investigate the interactions between soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, analyzing how native and managed grasslands in the Río de la Plata region can contribute to both sustainable agricultural productivity and biodiversity conservation, as well as climate regulation.
