Dynamics of Infectious Diseases :: Bats' Ecology and Conservation :: Molecular Ecology
Working area
My work focuses on the dinamycs of infectious diseaes in wildlife, especially using bats as a study group. Currently, I'm working on the description of enzoootic cycles of Alphavirus (linked to viral encephalitis), and using low-pathogenic viruses to describe ecological processes (metapopulation dinamycs, migration and interspecies contact patterns) in wild mammals. As part of my postdoctoral fellowship, I also work in trophic ecology of vampire bats in Uruguay.
Aside from that research line, I'm co-founder of the Program for Bat Conservation in Uruguay, and in association with that, I work in conservation status assessments for bat species in the country, and designing conservation strategies and activities.
