My main lines of research are: phenotypic and molecular characterization of invasive isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae from children and adults, molecular epidemiology of beta-hemolytic Streptococci groups A, B, C, and G; and sentinel surveillance of Bordetella pertussis in children ≤ 2 years of age (isolation and molecular characterization).
Working area
The Bacteriology Unit of the Department of Public Health Laboratories receives bacterial strains from public and private laboratories throughout the country for surveillance purposes, in accordance with pre-established guidelines, and for reference diagnosis. Within this framework, I conduct various lines of research, generating valuable information that will be used by authorities for decision-making.
