The core area of my scientific interests lies in Behavioral Neuroscience, particularly Neuroethology and Chronobiology. I coordinate a working group of 20 researchers at different stages of training from the Faculty of Sciences, Medicine, and Psychology of the University of the Republic, and the Clemente Estable Institute of Biological Research of the Ministry of Education and Culture, in my position as Full Professor and head of the Neuroscience Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences. I am currently developing two main lines of complementary research with sustained funding and production:
I. The study of the neuroendocrine bases of social behavior. I have led the construction of an advantageous experimental model for the study of the neuroendocrine mechanisms of aggression in native electric fish with over 30 years of experience.
II. The study of the integration of environmental and social modulations on the emergence of circadian rhythms in animal models and humans, which implies the development of a thriving line of translational chronobiology for the first time in the country.
