The Computer Science Area of PEDECIBA is one of its foundational areas. It was proposed, from its beginnings, to support national research in computer science and to create the pioneering graduate programs of the Facultad de Ingeniería of the Universidad de la República that today train more than a hundred graduate students. In addition to research projects, PEDECIBA Informática supports various outreach and outreach activities that try to awaken and attract the scientific minds of children and adolescents.

Part of its postgraduate program, the Master's in Computer Science constitutes the first level of consolidation and deepening in the areas of knowledge related to Computer Science, on a Postgraduate level. The PEDECIBA Computer Science Doctorate is the highest level of training in the area. Its main objective is to ensure the applicant the training to develop their own original research as well as to guide research work of other people, in the areas of knowledge related to Computer Science. Both programs include classical areas of Computer Science, as well as their interfaces with other disciplines, both basic and technological.
Currently, the area has more than 100 graduate students between Master's and Doctorates, and more than 50 active researchers.
